Throughout the 22-year history of CZ Electronics, home is always where the heart has been. And we have maintained a unique focus on creating products specifically for the South African market that are also made within our borders.
Why local?
In the context of South Africa, we live in a place that has vast untapped human potential. Yet unemployment figures continue to grow – particularly following COVID-19 lockdown measures. And it is lower income groups that have been hit the hardest. So, how can this issue be addressed?
China stands as a global benchmark of the impact focused local manufacturing can have on an economy; with a staggeringly low unemployment rate (around 5%). CZ Electronics believes that local manufacturers can adopt similar tactics in order to grow the economy – and in doing so, drastically drop unemployment.
This is the thinking behind CZ’s strategy to provide employment opportunities for local people; particularly black women who have – to date – remained largely marginalised, both before and after the Apartheid era ended in 1994. As mentioned in a previous blog post, the bulk of people employed at CZ are black women – something we as a company are extremely proud of. We are mobilising a powerful local workforce and driving our people to succeed.
Products made with local care
South Africa is a unique market, made up of a melting pot of cultures, income groups and philosophies. And making products to suit all South Africans requires a special – and personal – understanding of what makes our unusual nation tick.
At CZ, we believe that products made for South Africans need to offer a special mix of quality and value. This is the driving philosophy behind the creation of all the AIM products for Pick n Pay stores and the OpenView decoder for e-tv. These are products that proudly speak to South Africans’ need for quality at prices they can afford, making technology easier to access for a wider range of income groups.
